William “Brett” Perkison, M.D., MPH, FACOEM, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology, Human Genetics, and Environmental Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health where he is the program director for the UT Occupational and Environmental Medicine residency. He is board certified in both family medicine as well as occupational and environmental medicine. Prior to joining the School of Public Health, he has had experience as a general medical officer in the U.S. Navy, medical director for a county public health clinic, regional manager in occupational and environmental medicine in the oil and gas industry as well as a medical director for employee health at a large tertiary care hospital system.

Dr. Perkison was an award recipient of the Armed Forces Medical Scholarship Program during medical school at UTMB. After completing his intern year at Baylor College of Medicine, he served as a General Medical Officer in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at the naval air station in Keflavik, Iceland, from 1995-1998. He continued to serve as a reserve officer in the Navy after returning to Houston to complete his residencies in Family Medicine in 2000 and Occupational and Environmental Medicine in 2003.

Clinical/Research Focus

Disaster response – Designing e-learning tools to improve health and safety for construction workers deployed in communities in the immediate aftermath of natural disasters.

Chronic disease prevention – Optimizing electronic health records to increase patient participant diabetes, diabetes prevention, hypertension, and other chronic disease programs.
